GPS Technology and Asset Management – What Can They Do For You?

Innovation and modernisation are at the heart of what we do which is why we’ve recently unveiled our GPS tracking capabilities at this year’s Emergency Services Show.

Our family of software solutions can integrate a wide variety of labelling and tagging solutions to fit your needs and requirements. Whether it’s GS1 barcodes and QR codes or a transitioning to an innovative RFID solution – we ensure your organisation can reap the full benefits of our solutions.

Today, we’re going to highlight the significance of GPS technology. We’ll take you through how it works, what it can do, and what it will bring to your organisation when used with Pro-Cloud, CSS’ premier asset management solution.

GPS

GPS (Global Positioning System) is a prevalent technology which encroaches on almost everybody’s daily lives whether that’s through location-based services on your smartphone, or a Sat-Nav system in a car. GPS devices are undeniably integral in modern life and they just so happen to make perfect asset trackers.

But how exactly does it work?

  • A GPS Receiver captures signals from several satellites in near-earth orbit.
  • It then calculates the distance between itself and the satellite(s) by registering the precise time each signal was received.
  • This is particularly useful as multiple feeds of information allow it to create a more accurate idea of where it is.
  • The Receiver then triangulates this data to pinpoint the exact location of whatever it is attached to.

The Benefits of Pro-Cloud’s GPS Technology

Accurate location monitoring

The standout, or at least the most immediate benefit of integrating GPS across your organisation is the capability to hold location data, location history, and, by extension, usage details from an asset’s operational status. With our intuitive assets and inventory module you’ll benefit from real-time updates and locations of everything in your inventory across multiple locations simultaneously.

By registering and triangulating location data sourced from several satellites, GPS gives you accurate real-time information about an asset’s location, giving you greater visibility over your operations and processes. Having access to real-time data empowers you to make more data-driven decisions, maximising efficiency across every level of your organisation from logistics to warehouse and asset management.

For example, with real-time data you can see whether an asset has been moved for repair, processing, or deployment, allowing you to closely monitor the smaller details of your day-to-day operations. This feed of continuous data will compound as time passes, giving you the tools and information to make more data-driven decisions, optimising your asset and resource management.

Geofencing

Geofencing is essentially when you can draw or determine a specified area for assets to move through. For example, you could make Warehouse 1 as a designated area for asset A, B, C, etc. and if any of these assets are moved out of this area, you would receive a notification alerting you to this change.

So not only would you benefit from having tighter control and stronger visibility over your day-to-day asset management, but you could also extend this visibility, control, and management over to other arms for your operation.

For instance with our system you can tag and catalogue everything in your inventory with GPS tags and track them across multiple locations, with information being held against that asset in our catalogue feature to ensure you have everything you need to manage, track, and trace your assets. These tags work in conjunction with our software system, the hardware supplied by our partner Zebra Technologies, as well as our other tagging options (including RFID, BLE, QR, and GS1) to provide you with a full-loop, fully comprehensive management solution.

Optimised Resource Management

Real-time updates on an asset’s location, operational status, and history coupled with robust logistics management allows you to optimise your resource management.

By making more data-driven decisions, you can track and maintain assets throughout their entire lifecycle.

Overall, there is a marked increase in efficiencies across the board once GPS technology is implemented for asset and logistics management. By combining this with cloud-based solutions such as Pro-Cloud, you can benefit from enhanced control and visibility, cost savings, minimised downtime, maximised efficiency, and more data-driven practices.

GPS Asset Management with Pro-Cloud

When it comes to integrating GPS technology into asset management systems, most providers offer a platform that only integrates with existing tags. But, our solution can not only integrate with existing GPS tags, but we can deliver and implement a solution fully configured for existing GPS infrastructure while also providing additional hardware and tags.

All of the features and benefits we’ve outlined above can be integrated into your fully-configured Pro-Cloud solution. Whether it’s resource management, tighter control over your logistics, or real-time location tracking, Pro-Cloud is truly a full-loop asset management solution.

This is #TheProCloudPromise.
